Our Mission

To democratize multiplex assays through affordable yet higher-performance instruments and reagents

Our Story

"Could bead-based assay performance be further improved to meet the needs of today?"

That was the question our founders asked when they came together to form EMISSION iNC. in 2020.  Over the last few years, new platforms have emerged with better sensitivity, higher plex capability, and faster throughput.  None, however, have yet combined all of the features researchers and clinicians are seeking in a small, affordable platform.

The Emission team leveraged its collective decades of experience with flow cytometry and bead manufacturing to build a new system from the ground up, combining the latest cutting-edge components and unique bead chemistry.  Their answer to the question of whether a bead-based system can rise to today's performance challenge?  Yes, THE CUBE can!

Our Leadership

Van Chandler

CEO, Systems & Software

Van was a founder of the Luminex Corporation and served as its CTO from 1995 to 2006. Van holds over 20 patents related to flow instrument technology for multiplexing detection and analysis. He is responsible for the electronics architecture, embedded firmware, PC software, mechanical and industrial design of the The Cube™ Flow Instrument. Today Van serves as Emission’s CEO and his ideas are at the core of what makes the The Cube™ instrument the next evolution in bead-based multiplexing.

Glenn Chandler

Manufacturing & Quality

Glenn is the head of system manufacturing and quality at Emission. From 1983 to 2012, Glenn was the Vice President of Manufacturing at Inland Laboratories, Inc. and was responsible for establishing and implementing protein manufacturing protocols that adhered to GMP standards. From 2012 to 2019, Glenn was a VP of Manufacturing at Infinite Response, Inc. where he oversaw the manufacturing of industrial products, including complex electronics systems and electro-mechanical components.

Don Chandler, PhD

Chemistry

Don was a Senior Director of Chemistry at the Luminex Corporation from 1995 to 2019. He was responsible for development and refinement of the fluorescent dyed beads used in all Luminex Corp. systems and holds 22 patents in the field of fluorescent microsphere technology.  Don is the innovator behind Emission's Magentx™ Magnetic Field Sensitive, Fluorescently-Dyed Beads.

Jason Bedre

Reagents & Fabrication

Jason holds 11 patents related to microsphere (bead) technology.  From 1999-2019, he worked alongside Don at Luminex as a Senior Scientist and developed the microsphere synthesis protocols currently in use by Luminex Corp. At Emission, he was responsible for conceiving and developing novel products and methods for use in the The Cube™ Flow Instrument.  Today he oversees the development and production of core reagents including microspheres, as well as fabricating some of the system’s unique components.

Matthew Grow, PhD

Business Development & Assays

Matt brings over 25 years of experience in biological research and commercial management.  A former professor, Matt pursued his interest in biotechnology and moved to industry in 2005.  He has served as Marketing Director at Luminex where he was responsible for all on-market instruments and consumables, marketed genomic analysis at Wuxi NextCode (now Genuity Science), and managed the Kits and Assays portfolio at Abcam where he led the rapid growth of Abcam’s immunoassays. Most recently Matt ventured into multiplex digital PCR, serving as Stilla Technologies’ VP of Commercial Operations.  Today he leads Emission’s business strategy and supports The Cube users with assay development.

Gilberto M. "Ybet" Villacorta, PhD, JD

President and Co-Founder

Resident in the firm’s Washington, DC office with a focus on strategic counseling and pursuit of IP-centric transactions, Ybet has represented scores of corporate clients over many years. After emigrating from his native Philippines at the age of 16, Ybet received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ. Ybet was a Member of Technical Staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill, NJ. He left after 3 years to pursue graduate studies in bioinorganic chemistry at The Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he was awarded the PhD. He then joined an IP boutique firm in midtown Manhattan and found himself “back with the Jesuits,” this time to pursue his law degree at Fordham University School of Law. Dr. Villacorta has stepped up his entrepreneurial endeavors outside the law firm the last few years, reuniting in 2020 with the Chandler brothers to form EMISSION iNC. Ybet’s interests in the intersection of technology and the law are exceeded only by his passion for outdoor activities, including golf. Currently, he is a member of River Bend Golf & Country Club, Great Falls, VA and Kinloch Golf Club, Manakin-Sabot, VA.
